In this post, we are going to explain the process of dunklik or equivalence of educational qualifications in Turkey in full. Many people who immigrate to Turkey enter this country with the intention of employment or further education, but the main point is whether Turkey recognizes educational qualifications obtained in Iran or not?

The short answer to this question is no. Turkey does not recognize any educational qualification obtained abroad and does not allow work or further education with that qualification, even if that qualification is from one of the top 1000 universities in the world. But what is the solution?

dunklik of qualifications in Turkey

To use your educational qualifications in Turkey, you can easily dunklik or equivalence them. This process is carried out for primary to high school qualifications under the supervision of the Turkish Ministry of Education and for university qualifications by the Higher Education Organization (YÖK).

To convert 12-year school qualifications, you should note that the Turkish education system is 12 years. If you studied under the old system, you must submit your diploma and pre-university documents, but if you completed your education under the new system, submitting your 12th grade diploma and transcripts is sufficient.

Duration of the Dunklik Academic Documents

The duration of this process varies; for example, it takes about a year for medical degrees, but for other fields it usually takes 3 to 6 months.

Documents required for Dunklik Academic Documents

• Original of your academic degree (bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate) or a certified copy of it
• Official translation of the academic degree into Turkish
• Copy of university degree and its translation
• Turkish residence card or appointment letter (Rendu)
• Original and copy of passport
• Passport photo of the applicant
• Filling out the Dunklik special form
• Receipt of payment for the academic documents matching fee

Note: If you do not have an academic degree from an EU member state, it is mandatory to submit attached documents and translations.

How to Equivalentize Documents and Dunklik in Turkey

To carry out the equivalence of educational documents, you must apply through the previous appointment system (Randovu) and then you must receive a passing score in the relevant exams.

People who have been accepted into medical fields must take the STS exam (TUS exam) for equivalence and obtain a minimum score of 40 out of 100 points in this exam. People in dentistry must also take the STS exam (DUS exam) and obtain a minimum score of 40. For applicants to the pharmacy field, a written exam is not required and they must take the oral exam at Anadolu University. People in engineering and architecture fields must take the STS-2 exam for equivalence and obtain a minimum score of 40.

Teachers can also take the KPSS exam if they intend to teach in public schools. This exam is held twice a year in August and July, but those who want to teach in private schools do not need to take the KPSS exam.

If you do not have a dunklik or equivalence of documents in engineering fields, you will not be allowed to attend the engineers’ chamber and your signature on projects will not be valid. Also, for doctors and other medical fields, in addition to not being allowed to work, you will not be allowed to establish an office.

Please note that all stages of document equivalence must be carried out in Turkey and it is not possible to do this in consulates of other countries.

Necessary translations in Iran

For the document equivalence process, the documents must be officially translated in Iran and then approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and finally approved by the Turkish consulate in Iran. Unfortunately, dunklik of documents is not possible without Iranian translations and ordinary translations are not valid.

Do we need to pay a fee to an institution for dunklik?

No! The student can carry out the document equivalence process alone and, given its simplicity, there is no need to pay additional fees to the institutions.
