In this article, we will discuss how to take the SAT exam. As mentioned earlier, students must take the YOS or SAT exam to enter Turkish public universities at the undergraduate level. The SAT exam stands for Scholastic Assessment Test, and students who intend to study at top universities in Turkey as well as prestigious universities in the United States and Europe must achieve significant scores in this exam.

The main focus of this exam is on literary knowledge and the English language, and it challenges the candidate’s understanding and reasoning. The exam is held in English and includes math, geometry, reading comprehension, essay, and writing. In general, the SAT exam is more difficult than the YOS exam, because in the YOS exam, the candidate relies solely on his or her math knowledge and language is not important, but the SAT candidate must have good English language skills.

In addition to Turkey, this exam is also accepted for admission to American and European universities and creates a good resume for the candidate. Canada, Australia and Norway are also among the countries that accept the SAT test, and by obtaining high scores, you can receive very good scholarships from prestigious universities worldwide.

The important point about the SAT test is that universities that offer their courses in English hold this test. As a result, the scope of this test is smaller than YOS, but high-quality universities such as Hacettepe, Boğaziçi, Istanbul Technical University, etc. that offer their courses in English accept this test. Also, by obtaining high scores in two stages, you can apply to American universities.

The SAT test consists of two stages, SAT1 and SAT2, but only SAT1 is held for admission to Turkish universities. The duration of SAT1 is about 4 hours and the candidate must answer all the questions in the mathematics and English literature sections during this time. This test consists of 154 questions, 52 of which are reading skills, 44 are writing questions, and 58 are related to the student’s skills and abilities in mathematics.

Fluency in English and having a strong background in this test is very important, while the mathematics section can be obtained by mastering the first and second grades of high school mathematics. Each section of this test has 200 to 800 points, and for good fields and universities, the candidate must score around 1300 to 1400.

Unlike the YOS test, which is held once a year under the supervision of the Turkish Higher Education Organization, the SAT test is held 6 times a year in October, November, December, January, March, and May, and the Academic Assessment Services conducts this test throughout the United States and Europe.

The reading comprehension section of the SAT test consists of 52 questions that must be answered based on the text. The sources of these texts include American classics and texts related to biology, chemistry, physics, sociology, psychology, law, and economics. The time to answer the questions is 65 minutes, and negative marks are not considered for incorrect answers. The score for this section is 200 to 800.

The mathematics section of the SAT test consists of two parts. In the first part, the number of questions is 20 and the time to answer is 25 minutes (the use of a calculator is not allowed). In the second part, the number of questions is 38 and the time to answer is 55 minutes (the use of a simple battery-powered calculator is allowed). The questions in both parts are multiple-choice. In the mathematics section, most of the questions are related to geometry, statistics and probability, trigonometry, problem solving, and analysis.

The essay and writing section of the SAT test examines linguistic comprehension and the candidate’s ability to read, understand, and find errors in the text is measured. In this section, we do not require specialized knowledge or solving mathematical questions.

The cost of taking the SAT exam is $47.50 for American and European candidates and $64.50 for candidates who intend to take the essay section. The cost for Iranian candidates is $47.

How to register for the SAT exam:

Candidates can apply by mail or online, with registration usually done online. However, a group of Turkish SAT candidates must register by mail, including candidates aged 13 and under, those who failed to upload their information and photo, those who paid in cash, and those who are looking to choose a specific area at the test venue.

To pay for the test and book it online, you must use international bank cards. You do not need to be a resident of Turkey to have an international bank account with Visa and MasterCard.

Having more information about traveling to Istanbul can, in addition to having a pleasant trip, reduce your possible financial losses.
