To learn and obtain a valid international Turkish language certificate, the TOMER exam is considered the most valid and well-known certificate, which is equivalent to IELTS and TOEFL for this language. In this article, the Nihad Group team has tried to gather all the necessary information about the TOMER exam, from different levels to how to hold it and register for you.

What is TOMER?

TOMER stands for Türkçe Öğretim Merkezi, which means Turkish Language Training Center, and is one of the most famous certificates in the Turkish language. This test is considered a prerequisite for entering most universities in Turkey and determines the level of Turkish language of applicants or students. Even many large companies in Turkey have made having a TOMER certificate one of their employment requirements.

This test consists of different sections so that the applicant can be fully assessed. The test sections include Listening, Structure, Reading, Spoken Interaction, Spoken Production and Writing.

The scoring for each section is as follows: Listening is a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 25, Reading is a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 25, Speaking is a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 15, Speaking is a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10, and Writing is a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 25.

Most Turkish universities require a TOMER certificate in addition to passing the YOS exam. Even international universities that teach most of their courses in English require a TOMER certificate in addition to an IELTS certificate. In the employment sector, most large Turkish companies also require a TOMER certificate from their foreign employees. The level of application varies and students usually need to achieve a higher score than those who intend to work in companies.

Tomer Exam Score Leveling

The Tomer certificate is offered in two forms: Diploma and Certificate. The Diploma has no expiration date and can be presented for life. For university entrance, a minimum score of C1 and a minimum score of B2 in the work sector can be accepted in the Diploma. The Certificate is valid for between 6 months and 2 years and is held at two levels: Basic and Intermediate. The Basic Certificate is valid for 6 months and the participant must obtain a B2 score and then receive the Intermediate Certificate, which is valid for 2 years and requires a minimum score of B1.

The Tomer score leveling is as follows: Level A1 indicates general communication ability and answering simple questions. Level A2 indicates basic knowledge of the language and the ability to speak on predictable topics. Level B1 indicates intermediate knowledge of the language and the ability to deal with unusual situations. Level B2 indicates good knowledge of the language and the ability to describe a wide range of topics. Level C1 indicates very good knowledge of the language and the ability to deal with complex topics, and level C2 indicates knowledge of the language at an academic level, even better than the mother tongue.
